The Night Before Disaster

Prior to the battle of Queenston Heights things were not going all that well for the British. A unit on the heights was threatening to shot its officers. Isaac Brock dispatched Major Thomas Evans to the scene to arrest the ringleaders on October 11, 1812. Brock also charged Evans with crossing to the American side to arrange for the exchange of British prisoners, taken off two ships seized near Ft. Erie. Brock suggested trading them for an equal number of regulars captured at Detroit.

Evans met with Major Lovett, a close aid to Lieutenant Colonel Solomon Van Rensselaer. Lovett wouldn't agree to anything, repeatedly stating that nothing could be done until "the day after tomorrow."

Nothing like giving away your attack plan and the schedule for same.
