US Regimental Organization At full strength each US regiment consisted of ten companies. Companies had temporary units called platoons that would be formed before battles for maneuver purposes only . . . they had no fixed structure or command. Usually two platoons per company were formed. Two companies where referred to as a division and five companies were a wing. So a standard regiment would consist of five divisions and two wings.
