Bad Weather Halts Northern Army

Troops under Maj. Gen. Lewis arrived at shores of the St. Lawrence and there were strewn wrecks of vessels and property, all part of the American invasion force. Fifteen large boats were totally lost, and many more too seriously damaged to be safe. For 36 hours high winds made further movement impossible, but on the 20th, the weather turned calm and a large proportion of the troops, with the remaining boats, arrived at Grenadier Island. These were chiefly the brigades of Generals Boyd, Brown, Covington, Swartwout, and Porter.
