HISTORY

June 8-10, 1814
Battle of St. Leonard Creek

The Chesapeake Flotilla, commanded by Com. Joshua Barney, was attacked on St. Leonard Creek (near Lusby, Maryland) on three successive days: June 8, 9 and 10th. This battle, which is the largest naval engagement in the history of Maryland, took place where the Patuxent River meets the mouth of St. Leonard Creek.

The naval engagement was ineffective and the British were unable to destroy . . . or even serious damage the Chesapeake Flotilla.
