Declining Strength

By the late summer of 1814, despite having the largest bounty every offered by any nation for the purposes of recruitment in history (roughly $500,000 in 2012 dollars,) the rolls of the United States Army began to shrink as the number of new recruits began to fall below losses due to battle, disease or the ending of enlistments.
