Pike's Piqué

For the attack on York in April 1813 Gen. Pike issued specific orders that all civilian property must be respected, stating specifically that those found "guilty of plundering, if convicted, be punished with death." The blast that killed Pike kept us from seeing if Pike would have kept that claim. But one wonders, if he had what would have been the excuse used to burn Washington.
