May 24, 1815
Battle of Sinkhole

The engagement was fought between Missouri Militia and Native Americans led by Black Hawk just north of St. Louis. Black Hawk having no news that their British patrons had signed the Treaty of Ghent ambushed a foraging party of local militia. The battle was outside of Ft. Howard where the militia was stationed. The ambush by Native Americans on a group of rangers led to a siege. This would be the last land battle of the War of 1812.
