HISTORY

Frederick Hall

William Williams escaped from Oden's Farm in the spring of 1814, joined the 38th US Infantry under the name of Frederick Hall and served at Ft. McHenry during the Battle of Baltimore (another example of blacks serving in the same unit as whites). During the bombardment shell fragments removed Frederick's leg and he died as a result shortly after. Benjamin Oden advertised for his return on May 18, 1814 in the Baltimore American and Commercial Advertizer.
