Raid of Buffalo Fort, Missouri

In December 1812 a fort was constructed on the Alex Allison farm two miles south of Louisiana, Missouri. The fort and the surrounding area remained peaceful, but this would be the last day of Buffalo Fort's quiet. Capt. Robert Jordan and his son James were shot and scalped by the Indians while working on their farms on March 30th. A memorial stone at their graves in the old Buffalo cemetery reads:
