Pro-War Legend

Legend has it that US citizen, who was against the war, took a fine horse and rode to meet British forces landing in the Chesapeake. The horse seemed a fine animal, especially compared to the tired mounts of the British army officers. They asked him to dismount, which he did. Then to his surprise they took the horse. The man returned home staunchly pro-war.

Legend or not, it represents the feeling of most of the mid-Atlantic and Southern states by 1814.
